Frequently
Asked Questions
Can you explain partnership publishing?
Partnership publishing is an alternative to traditional publishing where the author plays a significant role in the publishing process. In partnership publishing, authors work with a publishing company to bring their book to market, but retain more control and profit compared to traditional publishing. The author typically makes a small initial investment, and the publishing company provides support with editing, design, marketing, and distribution. This allows the author to maintain creative control over their book and receive a higher percentage of royalties. Partnership publishing offers a more hands-on approach for authors who want to be more involved in the publishing process and retain a greater share of the profits from their book sales.
What are the advantages of partnership publishing compared to self-publishing?
Partnership publishing offers several advantages over self-publishing. While self-publishing provides full creative control and a higher profit margin, it also requires the author to handle all aspects of the publishing process such as editing, design, marketing, and distribution. Partnership publishing provides support in these areas while still allowing the author to retain a significant share of the profits. Additionally, partnership publishing companies often have established networks and resources that can increase the visibility and success of the book. This is particularly valuable for authors who want to focus on writing and may not have the expertise or resources to handle all aspects of publishing on their own. In conclusion, partnership publishing offers a balance between retaining creative control and profits while receiving professional support in the publishing process, making it an attractive option for many authors.
Does Little K Books accept every manuscript submitted?

This selective approach allows us to ensure that we only publish books that fit our brand and mission, providing our readers with high-quality, meaningful stories. What is the cost of the packages offered?
The cost of the packages offered by Little K Books varies depending on the type of service each author requires. We offer a range of packages to accommodate different needs and budgets, so you can choose the one that best fits your goals as an author. To learn more about the specific packages and their costs, please use the contact form on our website to request a price list. This will give you a detailed breakdown of the services included in each package and the associated cost, allowing you to make an informed decision about which one is right for you.
Are payment plans available?
We understand that investing in publishing services can be a big commitment, which is why we offer flexible payment plans to help make it more manageable. Our payment plan requires a 50% deposit to get started, followed by two additional payments of 25% each, one when we order your first sample print and one to launch the bulk print. This allows you to spread the cost of publishing your book over several payments, making it easier to manage your finances while bringing your book to life.
How much profit does Little K Books take?
Our goal is to ensure that authors receive a fair share of the profits from the sale of their books. We keep our model straightforward and transparent, paying out 90% royalties on domestic, trade, international sales, and licensing. This means that for every net income that Little K receives from the sale of a book or its rights, 90% of that amount goes directly to the author. If the author chooses to sell the book themselves, they will receive 100% of the profits. There are no hidden costs, and we believe that this approach allows our authors to see the full potential of their work.
When are royalties paid?
We pay royalties every half financial year. This means that authors receive payments twice a year, which allows them to see the results of their hard work and ensures that they receive their fair share of the profits. Our goal is to make the publishing process as smooth and straightforward as possible, and paying royalties on a regular basis is just one way that we do that.
Can you explain the process of sale or return?
In the 'sale or return' process, bookstores are given a certain period of time, usually two months, to sell the books. If the books haven't been sold, the store can choose to return them. This system is beneficial for first-time and unknown authors as it reduces risk for the bookstore, making it more likely for them to take on the book. However, it does mean that actual sales may not be known for a few months. The returned books can still be sold at a later time.
Where are the books distributed?
Our books are distributed globally through our distribution agency which coordinates all the necessary sales and distribution functions. This includes major bookstores, boutique retail stores, libraries, and other outlets. Our agency ensures that our books reach a wide audience and are readily available for purchase in different locations.
Can you explain how wholesale sales work?
Wholesale sales refer to the process of booksellers purchasing books from us or our distributor at a 40% discount on the Recommended Retail Price (RRP). This provides booksellers with a 40% profit margin if they are able to sell the books at full RRP. The process helps bookstores stock a diverse range of titles, as well as support authors and publishers.
Where are the books printed?
The books are printed in multiple locations across the world. For bulk prints, it is more cost-effective for authors to print overseas. However, if an author wishes to print on-demand, our printer is based in Melbourne, Australia.
How long does the printing process take?
The printing process can typically take 6-8 weeks, however, there may be delays due to factors such as Covid restrictions, shipping delays, port delays, and clearance delays, which are beyond our control. The exact timing of the printing process can be unpredictable, so we advise authors to allow for some flexibility.
Who holds ownership of the printed copies?
The ownership of the printed copies belongs to the author until they are sold. Little K Books acts as a facilitator to assist with the printing and distribution process, but the rights to the books remain with the creator.

At Little K Books, we understand the importance of having visually appealing designs and illustrations for your book. We believe that every book deserves to be presented in the best possible way and we're committed to helping you make that happen.
Who is responsible for marketing and public relations?
We understand the importance of marketing and public relations for the success of a book. As this is an author-led partnership, the responsibility for these efforts falls on the author. However, we are always happy to assist and offer these services at an additional cost if necessary. Our team will send copies of your book to magazines, newspapers, and awards companies for review and promotion. We will also create press releases and help with book signings and launches. Additionally, we encourage the author to reach out to their local paper, online platforms, local schools, and promote their book through local TV, podcasts, and radio stations. We are committed to supporting our authors in every way we can to help their book reach its full potential.
Is the organisation of the launch party provided?
Organising the book launch party is the responsibility of the author. However, our team is always available to provide ideas, guidance, and expert tips to help make the party a success. We understand the significance of this event and are committed to supporting our authors in every way we can. Our team will be in attendance at the party and available for moral support, but the overall organization and planning of the event is left up to the author. We believe that a well-planned and executed launch party can greatly contribute to the success of a book, and we are here to help make that happen.
Is social media support offered?
Social media support is offered in the sense that we encourage our authors to create and engage with their audience through social media platforms. However, the responsibility for creating and publishing social media content rests with the author. We understand the importance of social media in promoting and selling books, and we believe that it can be a strong influence on sales. Our role is to provide the necessary tools and resources to make the book accessible in bookstores and push it on our own social pages. While the author is responsible for creating the education behind the titles and engaging with their audience through their own social media, we are here to support our authors in every way we can, and we believe that a strong social media presence can greatly contribute to the success of a book.
